PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Authorities say they have located a teenager involved in a stabbing that left another teenage boy dead in an Ahwatukee neighborhood during the weekend.
Phoenix police said Wednesday that the unidentified teen gave a statement to investigators, but no arrests have been made in the death of 15-year-old Jaylen Reeves.
On Saturday, November 16, around 3 a.m., Phoenix police were called to investigate a stabbing in the area 35th Way and Lakewood Parkwaysouth of Chandler Boulevard. Investigators arrived and found Reeves seriously injured. He was rushed to hospital, where he died later that evening.
Authorities say Reeves was with a group of friends when a fight broke out, leading to the stabbing.
Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, served search warrants and seized several pieces of evidence related to the crime.
Reeves was a sophomore and member of the varsity football team at Mountain Pointe High School. Friends told Arizona’s family that he joined the team as a freshman and dreamed of playing professional football.
A A commemoration took place earlier this weekwhere dozens of family members and friends gathered to honor the high school student. Family said Reeves decided to donate his organs.
“There are so many people who care about him, and I will never forget him and that’s just the way we’ll live on forever,” said Ceth Reeves, Jaylen’s uncle.
