The ScottishLib Dems would vote down the budget containing independence spending

The SNP group in the Scottish Parliament has 62 MSPs, but to get their budget through they need a majority of 65 MSPs to vote for it.

The spending plans are likely to be backed by Glasgow Shettleston MSP John Mason, who has indicated he would continue to support the party despite his expulsion from the SNP.

It is unlikely that the SNP can reach an agreement with the Conservatives or Labour, and with just one MSP, Alba’s support would not be enough to get them over the line.

This means that the support of the Scottish Greens or the Scottish Lib Dems is necessary.

The Scottish Green party struck a power-sharing deal with the government earlier this year.

They have said the government must regain their trust, but they are against cutting funding for independence.
