Man, 74, seriously injured in semi-truck crash Monday in western Kansas

COLBY, Kan. (WIBW) – A man was seriously injured Monday morning when the truck he was driving collided with a semitrailer in Thomas County in western Kansas, authorities said.

The collision was reported at 10:05 a.m. Monday on the K-25 Freeway, about 4 miles north of Colby.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling southbound on the K-25 freeway when it crossed the center line and collided with a 2000 Peterbilt semi that was northbound on the freeway.

After the impact, the truck rolled and came to rest in the eastern ditch.

The semi continued north before veering off the highway into the west ditch and coming to rest in a wheat field, the patrol said.

The driver of the pickup, John Anderson, 74, of Colby, was transported to Swedish Hospital HCA Healthone in Denver with serious injuries. The patrol said Anderson, who was driving the truck alone, was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi, Javier Ochoa, 22, of Garden City, was transported to Colby Hospital with possible injuries. The patrol said Ochoa, who was also alone in his vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt.
