Washoe County man sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a minor

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A man convicted of multiple sex abuse charges will spend the rest of his life in prison. The Washoe County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that 48-year-old Jaime Oseguera-Vega has been sentenced to 247 years to life. He was previously found guilty of five counts of sexual assault against a child under 14, two counts of sexual assault against a child under 16, two counts of sexual assault and one count of incest.

In March 2020, a Washoe County sheriff’s deputy began investigating an anonymous tip about Oseguera-Vega’s abuse of children known to him. According to the district attorney’s office, the victim disclosed that Oseguera-Vega began touching her inappropriately at the age of six and escalated to sexual abuse when she was eight years old. She also told investigators that he sexually assaulted her multiple times over the next decade and threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone about the abuse.

The victim was eventually able to flee Nevada and report the abuse to police.
