Develop | Hong Kong multiple-entry visas for Shenzhen residents will take effect from December 1

Shenzhen residents can apply for a multiple-entry visa to Hong Kong from December 1, mainland Chinese authorities have announced, giving them unlimited entry within a year with stays of no longer than seven days at a time.

From the same day, Shenzhen authorities will no longer accept visa applications for one trip per week, but holders of valid visas can continue to use them, according to an announcement from the National Immigration Administration.

Mainland authorities also announced on Friday a “one trip per week” policy for residents of Zhuhai to neighboring Macau, as well as multiple-entry visas into the city for those in the Guangdong-Macau Deep Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. January 1.

Shenzhen residents were allowed to apply for individual visit recommendations from 2009, allowing holders to freely enter Hong Kong within a year.

The multiple-entry provision was replaced by a ‘one trip per week’ scheme in 2015, following increasing complaints from Hong Kong residents about parallel trade and overcrowding in border towns such as Sheung Shui and Tuen Mun.
