SLED is investigating the fatal N. Charleston officer involved shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in North Charleston.

Police said further X the shooting happened Friday at approximately 3:34 p.m. on Cherokee Street near Rivers Avenue and Navajo Street.

Spokesman Harve Jacobs said an off-duty officer working at the Carta bus station at Rivers and Cosgrove Avenue was alerted by customers to a situation involving a male suspect.

The suspect was wearing a black hat and brown jacket and was believed to be carrying a firearm.

The officers reported the situation to the control room and called for backup.

Two officers located the suspect on Cherokee Avenue and confronted him when he pointed his gun at the officers.

Officers then beat the suspect and immediately provided him with assistance.

EMS performed lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cherokee Street was blocked off from Rivers Avenue and a few blocks back.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
