Repeat offender rehabilitated by cops arrested in house burglary

The Pocharam IT corridor police on Monday arrested Sheelamshetti Venkata Ramana, 50, from Jodimetla for theft. About ten years ago, the police had rehabilitated him and created a tiffin center for him to earn a living.

Police said Ramana was a repeat offender. The police were responding to a complaint about a theft at a house in Swaranigiri Colony in which 14.96 tolas of gold ornaments and 28 tolas of silver ornaments were stolen. Police said Ramana faced 250 cases in Telugu states and was jailed.

CV Anand, the then Commissioner of Police of Cyberabad, advised him to lead a good life and established a tiffin center in Uppal. He was released from jail in 2014. Ramana ran the tiffin center for four years, but indulged in burglary again. He was arrested and sent to prison in April 2023 by the Nalgonda II town police, but continued to burglarize houses after his release.
Police said Ramana used disguises to conceal his identity, surveyed the area and identified locked houses. He forced the door, stole valuables and fled via pre-arranged routes, police said.

The police recovered a total of 21 tolas of gold ornaments, 1 kg of silver and 1.5 lakh cash from Ramana.
