Lucy Wicks has broken her silence following a months-long investigation into her former Upper House MP lover’s conduct and a series of abusive text messages he sent.

Taylor Martin was expelled from the Liberal Party during a Friday night meeting with members of the NSW state executive after an external investigation into his behavior.

Ms Wicks, a former federal MP for the NSW central coast seat of Robertson, made a confidential complaint in July 2023 regarding a series of text messages she received from Mr Martin over an extended period of time , which she said amounted to harassment.

In the messages, which he admitted were “ugly”, Mr Martin called Ms Wicks a “fucking idiot”, a “stupid piece of shit”, “sick”, an “absolute c*** of a nobody’ and a ‘fucking ignorant pig slut’.

The inquiry lasted nine months and was marred by delays and scandals, including the revelation that Mr Martin was always welcome at crucial meetings of the NSW Liberal state council.

Taylor Martin MLC was resigned from the NSW Liberal parliamentary party room in July amid outcry over text messages he sent to former MP Lucy Wicks. He has since been deported

But ultimately, Mr. Martin was determined to have engaged in “abusive conduct” and he was expelled from the Liberal Party on April 19, but will sit on the crossbench for the remainder of his term.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday, Ms Wicks said she felt she “never had a chance” after being named as a complainant in the media without her consent.

“I felt so violated and degraded,” she said.

“Then a vile smear campaign unfolded immediately following that.”

Reports at the time suggested Ms Wicks began an affair with Mr Martin when he was a young employee in her office – and while she was married.

It is understood her relationship with Mr Martin only began in 2017 – the same year he was elected to Parliament and after Ms Wicks’ marriage ended.

Ms. Wicks feared that speaking out would ruin her own career and reputation. Mr. Martin enjoyed strong support from the center-right contingent of the Liberal Party.

Mr Martin publicly apologized for a series of text messages he sent to Ms Wicks during this period, calling her a “stupid piece of shit” and a “fucking pig”.

“Living under the threat of professional taint and reputational damage was beyond terrifying,” she said.

She knew that speaking out could “cost her almost everything, including her financial security.”

“This is one of the main reasons why when victims speak out, you should always believe them. Speaking out is often more difficult than remaining silent, because of the retaliation that too often follows,” she said.

“This terror, this fear – this overwhelming feeling of impending dread that one learns to live with day after day and month after month – is what so many other women face when they experience the insidious and often hidden impact abuse.”

Daily Mail Australia revealed in March that Ms Wicks began receiving anonymous threatening letters at her new workplace after she was publicly identified as the complainant.

The investigation lasted nine months and was marred by delays and scandals.

One letter falsely claimed there was “X-rated” content from her “on the dark web”.

“I look forward to seeing this surface in the media (sic),” the letter continued.

At least three letters were passed to police for investigation, each of which was typed and printed.

A source with knowledge of the incident said “you could tell it was in an attempt to scare or intimidate her.” Someone wanted to denigrate her.

There is no indication that Mr. Martin had anything to do with these letters.

“Talking almost cost me everything. But through this I found my voice, my sense of security and well-being,” Ms Wicks said.

She also rediscovered her determination to “create real change to make a difference”.

“I have experienced and had to face horrific threats, overcome paralyzing fear, learn to stand up in the face of overwhelming terror, and remain determined to continue serving my community in any way possible, even through this vile, degrading slander campaign,” she said.

“But it also increased my courage, my resilience, my empathy and my ability to hear the unspoken pain of others.”

Ms Wicks hopes her experience and the survey results will encourage women who may find themselves in a similar situation.

“It can happen to anyone,” she said. ‘It’s not your fault.

‘Trust yourself. Trust your instincts and make sure others will believe you if you speak up.

She is still considering whether she should try to run again in the 2025 federal election.

The findings of the report were communicated to the party months later Mr. Martin’s new wife, Brittany, backed out of their marriage.

Daily Mail Australia revealed NSW Legislative Council member Taylor Martin married his girlfriend Brittany in a lavish ceremony at the Alexandria grounds in December, only for her to end the relationship several weeks later following an altercation.
