PHS looking to expand with dog familiarization room

Have you ever thought about adopting a dog but weren’t sure if the dog would get along with you? The Panhandle Humane Society is doing something to change that.

A meeting room will be added to the Humane Society to give potential dog owners a chance to bond with the dogs before adopting them.

PHS Executive Director Amy Bartholomew says she is excited about the new room and hopes it will give animals and their potential owners a chance to build relationships.

“This will serve several purposes. And we’re really excited to have a second room like that and a real purpose for that room that was used by the wedges. It’s not really compatible with holding dogs anymore, you know, for days on end, so it’ll be nice.

The room will add to the existing dog run to give dogs and their potential new owners a chance to bond and see if they get along. Bartholomew says they will call the room WyoBraska Rescue Room because they are using money from a local fundraiser to finance the project.

“We like to name our rooms because it’s easier than saying ‘the dog gets to know the room.’ So we call it the WyoBraska Rescue Room because we used the funds or we have set aside funds from one of WyoBraska’s fundraisers (Gives) a few years ago to sort of germinate the idea for this room.

The Panhandle Humane Society hopes to have the room completed by the end of summer.
