With over two decades of proven global mobile and cybersecurity experience, he has led several companies through start-up and expansion stages. In his role at Silent Circle, he is responsible for all company operations, businesses and products worldwide.

Smith joins Silent Circle after a successful tenure as CEO of Optio Labs, a mobile security company. Under his leadership, the company expanded its solutions portfolio while adding market-leading customers and partners. Notable honors include winning the Emerging Technology Award (E-Tech) for Enterprise Mobile Security and Privacy at CTIA Super Mobility in September 2016, beating out industry stalwarts such as Nokia SAP.

Silent Circle also announced that William “Tony” Cole, Vice President of FireEye and Chief Technology Officer of World Government, has joined its board of directors. Retired from the U.S. Army and cited as one of the most influential industry executives in government, this internationally renowned security thought leader helps governments understand today’s advanced threats and their potential impacts. FireEye has more than 5,600 customers in 67 countries, including more than 40% of the Forbes Global 2000 rankings.

According to Cisco’s recently released 2017 Annual Cybersecurity Report, mobile devices top the list of security professionals’ biggest concerns about cyberattacks, ahead of data in the public cloud, cloud infrastructure and user behavior, such as clicking on malicious links in email or on websites. The mobile privacy market is expected to double by 2021, according to ABI Research. Notably, revenues from secure mobile services will exceed $19 billion (US) during the same period, of which more than 20% will be generated by secure voice and messaging.

Prior to that, as President of Aether’s Enterprise division, Smith structured revenue growth from $3 million to $100 million while establishing the organization as the premier leader in providing mobile solutions to businesses . A graduate of St. Mary’s College in Maryland, Smith serves on the boards of several private companies. Given his expertise and experience, he is also a sought-after speaker at mobile, wireless and security industry events as well as investment conferences.
