Former Rookie of the Year winner LeBron James delivers powerful message to Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama

Expectations were sky high when Victor Wembanyama was expected to become the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft. It became even higher once it was known he would be picked up in the San Antonio Spurs system, with Gregg Popovich still leading the way. Today, he more than exceeded those expectations and landed his first hardware, the NBA Rookie of the Year award. Typically, winners simply receive a tweet or interview. For a generational perspective, legends from Shaquille O’Neal to LeBron James were greeting their club’s newest member.

Fanatics came to surprise Victor Wembanyama after he won the Rookie of the Year award. The Spurs rookie thought he was just going to see limited edition memorabilia as well as new merchandise from the brand. However, that wasn’t the only thing in store for him. NBA legends Chris Paul, Allen Iverson, Pau Gasol, David Robinson, LeBron James, Grant Hill and Jason Kidd, among others, had to show it off their love.

“Hey, Victor!” I just wanted to congratulate you on a fantastic rookie season. To see you come along with all the hype and talk. You rose to the occasion,” Grant Hill said.

It’s not often he does this, but Shaquille O’Neal also made some big statements about the star’s future: “High expectations.” You met all expectations. In the end, you will be one of the greatest men of all time.

Jason Kidd couldn’t even get over what a lethal shot blocker the Spurs rookie was: “Leading the league in blocked shots and altered shots.” Man, you set the bar so high.

One of Gregg Popovich’s legendary mentees, David Robinson, also had to offer his flowers: “You represented the Spurs, you represented yourself, you represented everyone. I couldn’t be more proud of you.

“Even before you came into the league, I was fortunate that you dedicated yourself to it day in and day out. I know, without a doubt, that you are going to have an incredible career. But I wish you’d let me take one of my middies off sooner or later because of you,” Chris Paul said.

“Yo, what’s up, Wemby?” I just want to congratulate you, man. Happy to count you among this great league. Keep doing it. Keep improving. Rookie of the year! Well-deserved. This is just the beginning. Love, brother,” exclaimed LeBron James.

“Welcome to the Rookie of the Year Club!” » said Kevin Durant.

Last season, there was still a lot of speculation about how much time would pass before Gregg Popovich’s Spurs would get him to adjust to the league. Now it’s not even a question. The narrative shifts to whether he manages to usurp the likes of Michael Jordan or LeBron James in NBA history.

For that, all fans can do is wait. Might as well enjoy what will be one of the greatest careers ever in the history of humanity.
