On Sunday, Nathan Wade – the former Fulton County special prosecutor who worked on the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump – spoke with ABC News’ Linsey Davis to discuss his resignation from the high-profile case following the revelation of his romantic relationship with District Attorney Fani Willis.

Wade was removed from the case in March after a judge’s ruling. In this shocking interview, he confirmed dating Willis. “Workplace romances are as American as apple pie,” Wade said. “It happens to everyone. But it happened to both of us.

When asked by Davis if he had any regrets, Wade was concise in his response. “I regret that this private matter has become the focus of this very important prosecution,” he explained. “This is a very important matter. I hate that my personal life is starting to overshadow the real issues of this case.

In November 2021, Willis appointed Wade to leading Georgia’s election interference case against Trump with his co-defendants. However, in January, one of Trump’s defense attorneys handling the case filed a motion demanding that Willis and Wade be disqualified for having an inappropriate relationship.

“(Willis is) a smart woman. I like to think my intelligence is above average, too,” Wade said. “It wasn’t lost on either of us that things could trickle down to the case and start to affect it. And so, we made an adult decision to do what we did.

He remained convinced that the nature of their relationship did not affect the integrity of the case against Trump.

“I don’t think anything that happened during the relationship should raise questions because it would be about the sufficiency of the indictment, because it would be about the evidence that was uncovered that may or may not be presented to the court. trial,” Wade said.

Willis has yet to respond to Wade’s remarks, which is wise given how conservatives tried to mercilessly smear his reputation.
