The New York Times announces a new role for Mohammed Hadi

Ellen Pollock | The New York Times

I am delighted to announce: Mohammed Hadi has become my Senior Deputy in the Business Department.

Mo has been doing this job for a while now, so I don’t need to tell you that he is a perfect fit for this position.

In this role, Mo will help me oversee the daily business report, plan coverage, and coordinate with the masthead and news desk. And Mo will continue to contribute to career development.

Every day, Mo improves our journalism and the well-being of the Business department. He will continue to work closely with the other MPs in the department – Kevin McKenna, Pui-Wing Tam, Ashwin Seshagiri and of course Rich Barbieri in Seoul. All have played a key role in the strength of our work, in our embrace of change and in our imagination of what lies ahead.

Two years ago, when I wrote to you about Mo, David Enrich provided this compelling and sophisticated analysis: Mo “is super smart and everyone loves him.”

Now listen to what Mo’s fellow MPs say about him.

Rich: “It was Ellen who brought me to the Times. What she doesn’t know is that Mo made the deal. We met at the Oyster Bar and I was like, “That’s it.” This guy is great: intelligent, easy to work with, quick, he loves economic journalism. Mo turned out to be all of that and more.

Ashwin: “Mo has a soft touch – with the lyrics and with his colleagues – that makes the stories stronger and the cover smarter. He is a rare type of leader who is gracious, extremely humble and almost completely unflappable.

Pui-Wing: “When Mo and I worked at Bloomberg, he was always the calmest one in the room. And now, as the news cycle gets busy, he remains the voice of reason. »

Kevin: “Mo was instrumental in keeping the Business Desk clicking and buzzing. Whether it’s breaking news or a newsroom obstacle course, Mo is the person who makes things happen. And no one could dream of a more stable or generous colleague.”

Mo has been a deputy since early 2022. Before joining the Times in 2018, he was editor-in-chief of Business Insider. He previously worked at Bloomberg, helping to oversee trading coverage. Before that, he was an editor and writer at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. Mo has worked in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and New York.

He is a graduate of the University of Richmond and has a master’s degree from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.

We are lucky! We are in good hands.
