Jarrod Bowen’s surprising revelation could shock Julen Lopetegui and pose a big dilemma for West Ham

A surprising revelation from Jarrod Bowen could shock Julen Lopetegui and pose a big dilemma for him when he takes over at West Ham.

Julen Lopetegui will take over a West Ham team that is arguably in need of a major rebuild.

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have quality players to shape this rebuild.

West Ham’s team is weak and thin, but the first XI has the X-factor and power.

Alphonse Areola, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Emerson Palmieri, Edson Alvarez, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus are all top players.

Lucas Paqueta is obviously also in this conversation – should he stay with the Hammers amid speculation of a move to Man City.

There is, however, no doubt about Bowen’s future.

West Ham’s top scorer has signed a new seven-year contract this season.

Bowen is West Ham’s man for all seasons

Bowen was toast by scoring 20 goals and making 10 assists in all competitions so far for the Hammers.

Last summer, David Moyes sold Gianluca Scamacca after just one season in east London.

The Scot did not replace him, instead stating he would use Bowen as a striker.

Truth be told, this has had mixed results. West Ham fans and observers believe that Bowen offers more to the team in his preferred position on the right side.

But Kudus did some of his best work on that front, too.

Michail Antonio’s return to form in recent times has seen Bowen move back to the right.

With Antonio turning 35 next season and Danny Ings likely to transfer, West Ham will surely be on the lookout for a new striker.

It will be fascinating to see if the new Hammers manager agrees with Moyes and sees Bowen in this role.

A surprising revelation from Bowen could shock Lopetegui and pose a big dilemma for West Ham.

Bowen’s astonishing revelation could shock Lopetegui

In fact, it might even shock some Premier League fans.

Because it has been revealed that since making his Premier League debut for West Ham, Bowen has more goal contributions than a staggering list of the league’s best players.

Bowen has 43 goals and 30 assists in the Premier League since his debut in 2020.

His cumulative total of 73 goals is more than the following players – and many others – during the same period:

The West Ham man on fire has 14 more than his nearest competitor on the list – Callum Wilson.

A journalist has revealed which player Lopetegui is most excited to work with at West Ham. And it’s not Bowen.

But that might just happen after reading this.

The new manager’s first big dilemma at West Ham

Lopetegui will no doubt be wondering what to do with Bowen next season.

In an ideal world, West Ham signs a top striker and a new left player if they are to replace Paqueta.

Kudus can then play more centrally – where he is most dangerous and prefers to operate.

Bowen can then stay on the right from where he makes the Hammers tick.

The Spaniard may be so impressed with these numbers that he wants to continue Moyes’ attacking experiment with Bowen.

It’s a good dilemma to have of course.

But this is not necessarily a simple question to resolve because everything depends on the arrival of the right striker.

Get that particular balance right and Lopetegui could head off to a flyer in east London.
