1 killed, 1 injured in fire at hall and boardroom in Sacramento

One person was killed and another injured Wednesday morning in a fire at a two-story home in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood. Fire crews were dispatched around 10:52 a.m. to the scene on Niantic Way, north of 68th Avenue, and encountered heavy flames upon arrival, the Sacramento Fire Department said. A man was removed from the building and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on him. He suffered severe burns and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to dispatch radio communications. Another person was found dead inside the home, Sac Fire said. It’s unclear what caused the fire, but Sac Fire spokesperson Captain Justin Sylvia told KCRA 3 the department called Sacramento police officers to the scene, which is common when someone dies. Officers will investigate whether or not homicide is a factor. Sylvia said the building was a rooming and boarding house and at least seven people lived inside the house. Starting at noon, roads near where the fire occurred will be closed for at least four hours. Check our live traffic map for updates. This story was organized by the KCRA Alert Desk in Hearst.
