Jennie Garth’s husband ‘slept in the guest room’ when kids were home

Jennie Garth and her husband, Dave Abramsinitially slept in separate rooms after their marriage in 2015 – all to accommodate her children from a previous marriage.

“We waited. When the kids were home, I slept in the guest bedroom,” Abrams, 42, said on the Wednesday, May 8, episode of Garth’s “I Choose Me” podcast. feels like it was literally warp speed I went from that to stepdad.

Garth, 52, and Abrams got engaged three months after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends. Their marriage was the second for Garth, who was previously married to the actor Pierre Facinelli. THE Beverly Hills, 90210 Elder and Facinelli, 50, share daughters Luca, 26, Lola, 21, and Fiona, 17. (Facinelli has since evolved with Lily-Anne Harrisonwith whom he welcomed his son Jack in 2022.)

After Garth and Abrams married, she noted that his “life changed dramatically,” going from single to stepfather to three children.

“All of a sudden I’m taking them to school (and) walking them to class,” Abrams recalled. “They were still in elementary school…and (Jennie) had things to do and we would delegate between (when) Peter had them a week and then we had them a week.”

For Garth, it was incredible to see his new husband “jumping in with both feet” in daddy mode.

“You dove,” she said. “But I think because we’ve accelerated everything, there’s been a lot of learning and growth on our part, but especially on your part. I mean, for example, having a family and being given all these responsibilities and having to model certain behavior for the children.

While Garth emphasized that they needed to figure out how to “be on the same page” when it came to parenting, Abrams didn’t see it as a challenge.

“If you step back and look at the big picture, the kids were involved and that’s the bottom line,” he said. “And then all these crazy things that are going on in your head that can seem crazy and overwhelming, well, you made that choice. We had to figure that out.

Abrams further praised therapy for helping the couple navigate their new dynamic.

“I’m really proud of us,” Garth responded, noting that they overcame an “impasse” in their relationship. “Finding someone, like (when) I found you, I knew, ‘He’s a good man. She is a person I can see in my home, I can see around my children, and I can see her growing into who we are going to become as a couple. I can see that with him. You were very willing and looked like you wanted it too.

Garth and Abrams briefly separated in 2017 but ultimately called off their divorce.
