GREELEY, CO – JULY 1: The sun shines through a gate blocking 9th Street during the opening day of the outdoor food court in downtown Greeley on July 1, 2020. The city closed the 8th and 9th streets between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue for vehicle traffic and allows alcohol and food consumption throughout the plaza – a measure to help downtown restaurants provide space for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Greeley is inviting the community to “Meet the Fleet” of public works, fire and police vehicles at a free event later this month.

The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Island Grove Regional Park, 501 N. 14th Ave.

This family event allows the community to get up close and personal with the city’s equipment vehicles. The event will also be an opportunity for community members to connect with the city’s human resources department about employment opportunities, as well as learn about upcoming public works projects planned in the community.

May 19 marks the start of National Public Works Week. The week honors the department’s contributions to protecting health, safety and quality of life.

Each year during the third week of May, the American Public Works Association sponsors National Public Works Week to honor public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees. This year’s theme is “improving the quality of life for all”.
