Engineers ready for weekend playoff action

TROY, NY – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is ready for plenty of Liberty League championship and NCAA tournament action throughout the upcoming weekend.

Here’s a current look at the week ahead for RPI Athletics:

As the top seed in the Liberty League this season, the Engineers earned the rights to host the Liberty League Championship for the third time in the last five seasons of the tournament. The Engineers begin their playoff journey Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against the winner of the 10 a.m. play-in game against RIT and St. Lawrence. All games in the double elimination bracket will be played at Robison Field, with the championship scheduled for 12:00 Saturday afternoon.

RPI earned home-field advantage in the Liberty League championship after finishing first in the East Division this spring. The Engineers will be in action for Thursday’s first round opener, with RPI scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch against Rochester. All games in the double elimination bracket will be played at Karl Steffan Ballpark, with the championship scheduled for 12:00 Saturday afternoon.

The Liberty League champion RPI men’s tennis team has booked another trip to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship. Appearing in the bracket for the fourth time in the last six years of the championship, RPI is scheduled to face Williams at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Pickard Tennis Courts at host venue Bowdoin. The winner of Saturday’s competition will advance to the regional finals on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

For the first time in school history, RPI was selected as the host site for the second and third rounds of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Division III Championship. ECAV Stadium has previously hosted NCAA championship games in two tournaments (2010 and 2016), but both of those occasions were first-round games. In addition to winning the Liberty League championship on Sunday, the RPI men also earned a first-round bye in this spring’s NCAA Tournament, as the Engineers will now await the winner of the opening game of Farmingdale State and St. Mary’s (MD) Wednesday night. . Once an opponent has been determined, RPI will begin its NCAA quest in the first game of the day Saturday, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Grove City and Bowdoin will take the field at ECAV Stadium for Saturday’s final game, with both teams starting at 3:00 p.m. The winners of Saturday’s matches will advance to Sunday’s quarterfinals which begin at 3:00 p.m.

Dick Farley Invitational

The Engineers men’s and women’s track and field programs return to action this weekend at the Dick Farley Invitational at Williams College. RPI is heading into the two-day event following last weekend’s Liberty League Championships. The Engineers women finished third in the overall team standings, while the RPI men won their third consecutive championship title.
