Official portrait of King Charles offered to public institutions

Hospitals, Coast Guard Operations Centres, job centres, universities, Anglican churches and other public institutions can now apply for a free official portrait of the King.

They will be able to claim the free framed image from June 5 until mid-August, as the King’s official portrait program is expanded to include more public institutions.

Oliver Dowden, Deputy Prime Minister, said: “Our public authorities and established churches are an essential part of the national fabric and it is right that they have the chance to commemorate this moment.

“The display of this new portrait also serves to recall the example set by our ultimate public servant. Like his mother before him, the king dedicated his life and work to serving others.

Charles is pictured in formal attire inside Windsor Castle, wearing his Royal Navy uniform as Admiral of the Fleet and an abundance of official medals and decorations.

It was photographed last year by photographer Hugo Burnand, who also took the coronation portraits of the king and queen as well as their wedding photos in 2005.

The scheme was previously open to local authorities, courts, schools, police forces, fire and rescue services and other public institutions in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, among others.
