Deve Gowda breaks silence, says not opposed to action if grandson found guilty-Telangana Today

Bengaluru: Breaking his silence on sexual abuse charges leveled against JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, party leader HD Deve Gowda on Saturday said he had no objection to the action taken against his grandson. he was found guilty.

He also said the cases against his son and JD(S) MP HD Revanna, who faces charges of sexual harassment and kidnapping a woman, were “created”, but refrained to comment further, as the matter was pending.

Speaking to reporters, Gowda, who turned 92 on Saturday, said, “…I don’t want to comment on the things happening in court regarding Revanna. Prajwal Revanna went abroad and Kumaraswamy (Gowda’s other son and state JD(S) leader) said on behalf of our family that it was the government’s duty to act according to law from the country.

“There are several people connected to this (sexual abuse case), I don’t want to name anyone. Kumaraswamy said those involved in this case should all be prosecuted and the women affected should get justice and compensation,” he said.

“We have no objection to taking action against Prajwal. But people have learned facts about the allegations against Revanna and how the case was created. In one case he was released on bail, in another the judgment will take place the day after tomorrow (Monday)… I do not want to comment on that,” he added, agreeing with the statement of Kumaraswamy that if found guilty, no one should be spared.

When asked if there was a conspiracy to defame and politically sabotage his family, Gowda replied: “It is true… in everything that happened, several people are involved, I will not name no names. Kumaraswamy will tell what steps to take.

Responding to a question on BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda’s allegations that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was behind the circulation of a USB drive containing explicit videos involving Prajwal Revanna, Gowda said Kumaraswamy would respond to all this.

“We saw in the media what Devaraje Gowda said. Kumaraswamy responded actively to all this as party president. He will speak, I won’t at this point. I had campaigned for the Lok Sabha polls. On June 4, after the Lok Sabha poll results are announced, I will meet you (media),” he added. Gowda also asked journalists camping near his house to leave. “I also appeal to your owners,” he said.
