Paul Michael Glaser was shocked by the death of David Soul.
David, 80, died in January after years of poor health, but his “Starsky Hutch” co-star Paul admitted he didn’t know how close his friend was to death when they spoke just a week before his death.
He told The Daily Mail newspaper: “We spoke about a week and a half before he died and although I knew he hadn’t been well for a while, because he and I talked about it a lot, I I just did.” I didn’t know how quickly this was happening.
Glaser had already paid tribute to his “brother and friend” after his death.
He told PEOPLE: “David was a brother, a friend, a caring man. We will never see his like again.”

Glaser also sent his condolences to Soul’s beloved wife, Helen Snell.
He said: “I would like to offer my condolences to dear Hélène, who he loved and cherished and who was by his side during these difficult years. He could never tell me enough what she meant to him.

Helen announced David’s death, aged 80, in a statement, saying: “He shared many extraordinary gifts around the world as an actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend.
“His smile, his laugh and his passion for life will be remembered by many whose lives he touched.”
The actor was best known for playing Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson in the television series “Starsky and Hutch.”
His other acting roles include “Here Come The Brides”, “Magnum Force” and “The Yellow Rose”.
