Michael Schumacher’s son could make surprise return to F1 for Canadian Grand Prix

Mick Schumacher could make a stunning return to F1 with Alpine at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion Michael, has been without a seat in F1 since he was dropped by the Haas F1 team in 2022 after two years of racing. The 25-year-old joined Mercedes as a reserve driver last year but did not get the chance to drive for the Silver Arrows.

Outside of F1, Schumacher has signed up to the Alpine World Endurance Championship program and will compete in the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans next month. And his new affiliation with Alpine has sparked a potential return to F1 amid incredible tension with the camp, notably between the two drivers Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.

On the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix last Sunday (May 26), Ocon attempted a daring lunge on the inside of his teammate, then made contact and saw the front wheel of Gasly’s car sending his Alpine air bounding , further straining a man already in a conflicted relationship.

After the race, Alpine team principal Bruno Famin told broadcasters there would be “consequences” for Ocon, which could see him withdraw for the next Grand Prix at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The Frenchman could potentially be replaced by Alpine’s reserve driver Jack Doohan or pave the way for a remarkable comeback for Schumacher.
