Donald Trump is reportedly considering pardoning WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange if he wins the election.

Donald Trump has said he would “very seriously” consider pardoning WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange if he wins the US presidential election.

Mr Assange faces prosecution in the United States over the publication of leaked documents detailing apparent US military violations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The United States is trying to extradite him to stand trial, calling the leaks “one of the largest compromises of classified information in U.S. history.”

Mr Assange, an Australian, remains in Britain where he has spent more than 13 years fighting various legal cases.

Asked during an interview on the Tim Pool Daily Show podcast if he wanted to pardon Mr. Assange, Mr. Trump replied: “Well, I’m going to talk about it today, and we’re going to think about it very seriously.

“And we’re going to have a few other things to say in the speech that I think you’re going to love,” he added, ahead of a speech at the Libertarian Party’s national convention in Washington.
