Ma and Pa Kettle Days Mud Bog Fundraiser, noon, Kettle River Veterans Building. The nonprofit Ma and Pa Kettle Days Mug Bog Committee is hosting a silent auction to raise funds to return the Mud Bog to the original pit on August 10. The committee’s goal is to raise $5,000 for event costs such as restrooms, bleacher rentals, trash, first responders, prize money and environmental precautions around the pit. Civil War Veterans Ceremony, 3 p.m. Atkinson Community Cemetery, 2589 County Road 144, Carlton. Pvt. Charles “Carl” B. Oswell, the last Civil War veteran buried in Carlton County, will be honored in a ceremony. The Sons of Union Civil War Veterans will lead the ceremony with assistance from the Carlton County Historical Society and the Cloquet Veterans Honor Guard. The ceremony will include the SUVCW Last Soldier Dedication Ritual and the placement of a Last Soldier Marker on the veteran’s grave. The public is encouraged to wear Civil War era clothing. Oswell’s descendants are invited to attend as special guests.
