From next month, refunds for canceled train tickets will be 7 days

JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has established a new policy regarding return time for cancellation of train tickets between cities. From June 1, 2024, the refund will be made no later than seven days after the cancellation date.

KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus previously said that the time frame for the return of tickets canceled at the request of passengers is 30 to 45 days.

Additionally, Joni said changes to the ticket duty return time provisions have been implemented to improve services to customers.

“By speeding up the refund process, KAI hopes to provide a better and more satisfying experience for its loyal passengers,” it said in an official statement, Wednesday, May 29.

To facilitate the reimbursement process, KAI offers several methods. First, funds can be returned by transfer to the passengers’ bank account or e-wallet.

“This provides convenience and speed for passengers who use banking services or digital wallets,” he explained.

For passengers who do not have a bank account or e-wallet, Joni continued, KAI also offers a temporary solution in the form of cash refund.

“These cash returns can be made at certain stations fixed by KAI, seven days after the cancellation date,” it said.

In addition, KAI also regulates reimbursements for city trains operated by parent company KAI (and not its subsidiaries). Refunds were issued in cash seven days after the cancellation date.

“This measure is taken to ensure that all passengers, whether users of intercity or urban trains, benefit from fast and efficient services,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ticket cancellation process can be done on the Access by KAI app and at the station counter that serves ticket cancellations, with an administrative fee of 25 percent per canceled ticket.

“Passengers can cancel their tickets at Access by KAI no later than two hours before the train departure, or at the station counter no later than 30 minutes before the train departure,” he said.

With this new policy, KAI shows its commitment to continually improving service quality and meeting customer expectations. Passengers who cancel their trip now no longer have to wait long to get their funds back, so the cancellation process becomes easier and less tedious.

“This step is also expected to increase customer trust and satisfaction with KAI services. And encourage more passengers to use rail modes of transport as their main choice,” concluded Joni.
