,000 reward offered for 2023 murder of Montgomery woman fatally shot while sleeping in bed

It’s been more than a year since a 52-year-old Montgomery mother was fatally shot while she slept in her bed, and authorities are not giving up hope of solving the case.

On Wednesday, Central Alabama Crime Stoppers announced an increase in cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of Yvette Carter’s slaying.

The deadly shooting occurred at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Carter was found dead inside her home.

Investigators said three suspects were seen getting out of a small black sedan with factory rims before the shooting. All three wore hoodies.

A suspect was seen exiting the car dressed in black with a white or gray hoodie, black stockings and white shoes. He pulled a gun out of his pants.

The family previously said they believed Carter was killed by a stray bullet, WSFA reported.

Montgomery City Councilman Oronde Mitchell and Montgomery County Commissioner Carmen Moore-Zeiler each donated $1,000 in rewards. Crime Stoppers increased their offer to $3,000 for a total of $5,000.

“I want all residents to feel safe in the neighborhoods where they live,” Mitchell said.

“I stand with Yvette Carter’s family in their quest for closure and justice for their loved one and for all those affected by the senseless gun violence in our community,” Moore-Zeigler said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867), 1-833-AL1-STOP (251-7867) or through the P3-tips app.
