Kerbal Space Program 2 Developers Confirm Layoffs, While Take-Two Remains Silent

While Take-Two is still coy about the status of Intercept Games, reliable sources have stated that the studio is in the process of shutting down. An official notice of closure has even been filed with the state of Washington. Although Take-Two doesn’t want to confirm the layoffs at this time, the people who work there have no problem talking about it, confirming that the layoffs are expected to take place in June.

According to a senior team lead at Intercept Games, the studio behind the early access title, Kerbal Space Program 2, the Intercept Games team will no longer have jobs starting June 28. The confirmation came as part of a post on LinkedIn, as people working at the company begin looking for their next job.

Take-Two has so far not publicly acknowledged plans to close two studios, just months after saying it had “no plans” for layoffs. That quickly changed about a month ago, when Take-Two spent a large sum of money to acquire Gearbox Entertainment and other studios from Embracer Group.

What’s frustrating about this situation for players is the fact that Kerbal Space Program 2 is still for sale on Steam through the Early Access program, and given this news, the game may never be finished. Take-Two, as a publisher, must inform customers about the state of the game and its future. Not only that, but everyone who bought it should probably be refunded if the game is never brought to completion.

KitGuru says: Take-Two’s refusal to acknowledge these impending layoffs is very strange. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if executives didn’t actually know that Intercept Games was working on an Early Access game, which has already been sold to customers with the promise of seeing it through to release. The publisher may be trying to figure out what to do about this before making a public announcement.
