Pac-12 announces 2024 women’s golf playoff awards

The Pac-12 announced the annual women’s golf playoff awards Wednesday as voted on by the league’s head coaches. by STANFORD Paula Martin Sampedro swept Pac-12 women’s golfer and freshman of the year while the Cardinal Anne Walker earned Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors for the third time in the last four seasons. PAC-12 WOMEN’S GOLFER AND FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Paula Martín Sampedro, STANFORD (Madrid, Spain)

Although she did not win a tournament title during her rookie campaign, Martín Sampedro was the most stable player on a Stanford program that won five team titles, capped by its third all-time NCAA national championship in 2023-24.

The All-Pac-12 performer, WGCA co-freshman and first-team All-American led all freshmen and ranked in the top 10 nationally with a 70 average .5 and finished in the top 10 in all but one of his 10 events. Of her nine top 10 finishes, six were in the top 5, including third at the Cle Elum NCAA Regional and National Championship. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Stanford program has won both Pac-12 Golfer and Freshman of the Year, with Sampedro becoming the third Cardinal to win both honors in that span with Heck in 2021 and Zhang in 2022.

In total, Martín Sampedro is the eighth in Conference history to win both the Pac-12 Golfer and Freshman/Newcomer of the Year awards (Erica Blasberg ARIZ 1993, Louise Stahl ASU 2005, Anna Nordqvist ASU 2007, Annie Park USC 2013, Alison Lee UCLA 2014, Rachel Heck STAN 2021, Rose Zhang STAN 2022).

She is the fifth consecutive Stanford Golfer of the Year (Albane Valenzuela 2019, Rachel Heck 2021, Rose Zhang 2022 and 2023), and the fourth consecutive year and fifth overall freshman since 2017 (Andrea Lee 2017, Rachel Heck 2021, Rose Zhang 2022, Megha Ganne 2023).

PAC-12 WOMEN’S GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR: Anne Walker, STANFORD

Walker’s program emerged from an All-Pac-12 finish to win the Stanford program’s third NCAA championship of his tenure (2015, 2022, 2024) en route to being named Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the fourth time (2015, 2021). , 2022, 2024).
