Freddy Peralta Shares What He Said to Jackson Chourio After Another Mistake in the Outfield

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-3 in the second game of their four-game series at American Family Field on Tuesday night. While the scoreline resulted in an unremarkable final out of baseball, offense was lacking from both teams for the majority of the game for the second day in a row. Cubs starter Ben Brown pitched seven hitless innings before Sal Frelick singled in the eighth inning against relief pitcher Hayden Wesneski.

With the Brewers leading 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Willy Adames brought in Christian Yelich with an RBI single, but was thrown out at second trying to turn it into a double. Closer Trevor Megill was hit by a line drive early in the tenth and had to retire from the contest. Chicago scored five runs in the tenth and held on for the 6-3 victory.

During the Brewers’ road series against the Miami Marlins, Jackson Chourio made a terrible mistake in the outfield that may have cost Milwaukee a game. On a shallow ball to right field, he didn’t put much effort into reaching the ball and dropped it for a base hit. The fly was the potential game-ender. Instead, the Marlins continued to rally, tied the game, then won it in the 10th.

A similar thing happened against the Cubs on Tuesday night. Playing left field this time, Chourio dropped a shallow ball (which was very catchable) for a base hit.

Brewers fans were unhappy with his continued lack of effort on defense:

Apparently the 20-year-old outfielder who is also feeling pretty depressed after making yet another stupid mistake.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta had a message for Jackson Chourio

Apparently, once the round was over, Chourio was obviously depressed. Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, who allowed just one run in five and two-thirds innings while striking out 11, came to talk to him.

After the match, he revealed what he said to Chourio:

“Yeah, by the look in his eyes I knew he felt bad about what happened. You know, I saw him and I knew he was feeling bad,” Peralta said. “So I went to him to remind him that he’s there because he’s awesome. I told him, you know, ‘You got paid millions before you even took one (at bat).’ You’re a great player.’”

Peralta then said he told Chourio he could make up for his mistakes by getting hits or walks and stealing bases. Chourio was able to do neither as he was thrown out for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning.

While frustrating, it’s important to remember that Chourio is only 20 years old. He still has a lot of maturing to do as a player.
