Trump’s lawyer says nothing will stop his campaign, including prison time

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, assured the public that even prison would not stop his presidential campaign.

Habba addressed the latest campaign news during an interview on the BBC, which was previewed on Saturday. The full interview with presenter Laura Kuenssberg will be published on Sunday.

“(Trump) is running for president,” Habba said. “Nothing will change that.”

“Even if he ends up locked up?” » asked Künssberg.

“I recommend that you find the last break in this country from the people who live in this country, from the people who need it in this country because frankly, it’s more important than anything anyone thinks,” Habba said. “Our people are speaking loudly, they’re donating, they’re small donors, and they’re standing up because they’re afraid because we can’t have this happen to us.”

Even though Trump lost his case, it was accompanied by an increase in financial support for the Republican presidential candidate. The Trump campaign raised $1.5 million after the first day of hearings, then doubled that amount three days later, and other donations totaled $76 million raised in April alone. In the 24 hours following the verdict, Trump’s campaign raised $52.8 million.

Trump himself showed no signs of stopping his 2024 campaign. Instead, he promised his supporters outside the courthouse that he was “still fighting for our country.”

Judge Juan Merchan is expected to sentence Trump on July 11, just before the Republican National Convention, where the former president is expected to be nominated as the party’s nominee for president.
