June 1, 2024 (Washington DC)—Speaking yesterday at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day, President Joe Biden paid tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives to protect our country and highlighted the efforts made by his administration to help military families and veterans. His rival in the November election, former President Donald Trump, took no steps to honor veterans in person, nor any promises to improve the lives of veterans or service members, instead launching a vitriolic attack against the American justice system.

“Today we join our sorrow with our gratitude,” President Biden said in Arlington. “Gratitude to our fallen heroes, their families and the brave souls who continue to support the flame of freedom around the world. »

He added: “To everyone who has lost and loved someone serving our country…I know how difficult it can be,” recalling his son, Beau Biden, a deceased Iraq War veteran nine years ago from brain cancer linked to his exposure to toxic burning in Iraq. Biden noted that the Promise to Combat Comprehensive Toxics Act or PACT Act that he championed and signed into law allowed his administration to approve more than 1 million claims from veterans injured by toxic exposures while serving military.

Biden has signed more than 30 bipartisan laws supporting service members, veterans and their families. “Last year, the VA awarded more benefits and processed more claims than ever before in our nation’s history,” he said, concluding, “God bless our veterans and God protect our troops.

Donald Trump posted a much darker and more selfish message on his social truth platform. The former president did not mention any steps his administration is taking to help veterans, enlisted service members or their families, nor did he mention any goals to help them if he is re-elected.

Instead, the alleged nominee, who was convicted this week by a unanimous jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal money payments to a porn star, denounced the judge who should convict Trump on July 11 in the criminal case. . He also lambasted E. Jean Carroll, the woman he was recently convicted of sexually assaulting and defaming, as well as a judge who found Trump guilty of inflating and deflating property values to escape to pay taxes in a separate civil case.

“Happy Memorial Day to everyone, including the human scum who are working so hard to destroy our once great country,” Trump wrote, “and to the radical left, Trump hating the New York federal judge who presided, understand this , TWO separated. lawsuits, which awarded a woman I had never met before (a quick handshake at a celebrity event 25 years ago doesn’t count!) 91 MILLIN DOLLARS for “DEFAMATION”… Or Arthur Engoron, the N..Y. State Judge Wacko who fined me almost $500 million (ON APPEAL) for having NOTHING WRONG….”

Trump accused the Biden administration of “rigging” the criminal trial, an allegation that makes no sense given that all of Trump’s convictions to date have been in a New York state court and not by a federal court.

Trump did not speak to any military or veterans groups or visit any memorial sites to honor fallen troops.

His only acknowledgment of the spirit of Memorial Day was a brief, separate message online that read, “WE CAN NEVER REPLACE THEM.” WE CAN NEVER REFUND THEM. BUT WE CAN ALWAYS REMEMBER.”
