Collegedale traffic stop leads to recovery of numerous drugs and stolen firearm |  Local News

A traffic stop led to the recovery of numerous drugs and stolen firearms in Collegedale Saturday morning.

Collegedale police said an officer stopped a vehicle on Apison Pike for carelessly driving through a construction zone early on June 1.

When the officer saw a gun in the vehicle, Lara Kate Peterson, 23, was asked to get out.

The officer then found marijuana, heroin, 1.5 pounds of methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia and two firearms in the car.

One of the firearms was confirmed to have been stolen from Knox County, Tennessee.

“Our officers work hard every day to protect this community from the dangers of drugs and stolen guns,” said Chief Jack Sapp. “This is another example of how Collegedale officers not only continue to set the standard of excellence in policing, but also our continued commitment to making Collegedale one of the cities safest places in the great state of Tennessee.”

Peterson was charged with the following:

  • Crime of possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute
  • Heroin possession
  • Crime of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime
  • Possession of stolen weapon
  • Driving while in possession of methamphetamines
