Meet Emily Lipstein, Streetsblog’s new engagement editor!

Meet Emily Lipstein, Streetsblog’s new engagement editor!

Other editorial offices are contracting, but the Streetsblog universe is expanding.

On Monday, StreetsblogNYC’s six-person newsroom added a seventh: new engagement editor Emily Lipstein.

Lipstein (pictured above) will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of our multiple social media accounts (follow us on X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn), broadcasting on Reddit and producing new video content on TikTok and Youtube. .

Lipstein has been designing social media strategies for news organizations for 10 years. Most recently, she was a social editor covering technology and science news at VICE’s Mainboard, where she co-hosted a weekly podcast and show on Twitch, and produced TikToks that sometimes upset people on the internet. Utah.

This is Emily’s 1986 Panasonic Sport DX.

“I think it’s great to be able to ride my bike around town during work hours,” Lipstein said, when asked what excites him most about this new role. “I got a new bullhorn handlebar and SPD pedals for my commuter bike, so crossing the Manhattan Bridge will be a little less nightmarish on a six-speed from the 1980s.”

Lipstein said she hopes to use the viral power of social media to involve more New Yorkers in the fight to make our city safer.

“I hope this can be done better through funny videos and clever editing, but if doing a goofy dance makes anyone care about keeping Berry Street car-free, then I guess that’s my contribution to the cause.”

Attempt to walk on the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway.

A reluctant Long Island native, Lipstein spent his adolescence painfully aware of the schedule of the Port Washington branch of the LIRR. After a brief four-year stay in Chicago’s Hyde Park – where she decided against becoming an urban ecologist – she returned to New York. Lipstein now lives in Brooklyn with her roommate, their two cats and her two bikes. When she’s not on the bike, she enjoys watching YouTube videos about topical entertainment and religious schisms.

Given Lipstein’s title, we hope Streetsblog readers will consider it a two-way street. She can be reached at [email protected] or through our comments section, which she will mine daily for your reasonable advice, suggestions, critiques, and rants.

Lipstein joins a growing team that now includes:

  • Gersh Kuntzman, editor-in-chief
