Nicola Coughlan and the Bridgerton team tease season 3, part 2 at UK premiere

London’s Leicester Square was once again transformed into ‘Ton as cast members from Bridgerton’s third season, including Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, teased an even steamier part two.

The first part of the third season premiered on May 16 and followed the love story between Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Newton). Netflix executives decided to divide the part into two parts, with the second being broadcast on Thursday.

Episode five, presented to audiences at the Odeon Luxe Theater, offers even spicier scenes and tenser interactions between the beloved characters from the Regency-era hit. According to Netflix’s internal rankings, the first half of season three received 45.05 million views (total hours watched divided by streaming time) worldwide. That’s approximately 165.2 million hours of viewing.

Coughlan commented on fan reaction before the premiere. “I’m going to take a chance in the dark and say I’ll never see anything like this again,” she told the adoring fans who, of course, matched the elbow-length gloves and headpiece extravagant of the actress.

What makes this season so successful? “You can never really predict why, but I think there is a growing love for Bridgerton,” said executive producer Betsy Beers. The Hollywood Reporter. “I think there’s something about this season that people have been kind of looking forward to – there’s something about being able to watch it with a lot of anticipation. There’s also something about these two characters, that we love them and support them.

Other actors who took to the red carpet included Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Simone Ashley (Kate Bridgerton), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Bridgerton). Notable absences included Jonathan Bailey, who just finished filming Jon M. Chu. Wicked parts one and two.

It wasn’t quite the sight to see at the premiere of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, where the entire square was covered with cream carpet and a real golden carriage was erected. But the event brightened up a gloomy June day in central London by installing at the end of the carpet.

Screening guests were also excited to spontaneously walk into Andoh playing the piano before the premiere. Word spread that she spotted the instrument after leaving the red carpet and quickly sat down to treat fans and fellow cast members to a beautiful performance.

Trouble brews for Coughlan’s Penelope in part two, as she is forced to agree to potentially reveal her identity as Lady Whistledown – the ‘Ton’s gossip queen but, notably, a public criticism of Colin. Fans will see the extent of his enigma when the final four episodes of season three premiere on Netflix on June 13.
