A voice message will now accompany the weekly Lake Charles siren test

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The Lake Charles Fire Department announced that a voice message will accompany regular weekly siren testing starting next week.

The voicemail was scheduled to be delivered June 10, but Katie Harrington, a spokesperson for the city of Lake Charles, told KPLC it did not go as planned. The Lake Charles Fire Department has resolved this error and the voice message will now be announced this coming Monday, June 17.

The weekly siren test, which will take place on Mondays at 12:15 p.m., will now announce the following statement: “This is a test of the CAER siren system, there is no emergency. Again, this is a test of the CAER siren system, there is no emergency.

This announcement can be heard for the LCFD service area, which includes the Lake Charles city limits and certain unincorporated areas of Ward 3.

The LCFD would like to reassure the community that they are only conducting a test and should not be alarmed if they hear a voice after the siren sounds.
