A nostalgic nod to an American pastime: skate into summer at the Del Hotel’s new retro-inspired skating rink

Pull on your socks, lace up your skates, and get ready to take on summer the old-school way: It’s all happening at the Hotel del Coronado’s new outdoor skating rink, open through Labor Day.

Sanjiv Hulugalle, general manager of the Hotel del Coronado.

“The Del’s sense of nostalgia inspired us to introduce something especially fun this summer,” said Sanjiv Hulugalle, general manager of Hotel del Coronado. “We are the backdrop to countless memories for locals and guests, and we wanted to add a vibrant new activity for the entire community to enjoy.” A roller skating rink was a natural choice.

Coronado Times Editor-in-Chief Dani Schwartz shows off her skating skills.

The lively skating rink is located at the new main entrance to the resort and features fabulous music, delicious drinks and treats galore (Did someone say Dippin’ Dots?). Tickets can be purchased online and include roller skate rentals and up to 90 minutes of skating. General admission is $28, but hotel guests, members, military and first responders get tickets for $25.

Skaters can head to the snack area at any time to grab a refreshing drink or a delicious treat.
Flower Power was the obvious choice for a fizzy, sweet adult drink!

Additionally, the rink will feature festive themed nights including “Throwback Thursdays” featuring 80s and 90s pop and rock, “Saturday Disco Fever” featuring 70s disco grooves and “Rock Around the Rink on Mondays” playing classic hits from the 50s and 60s. There’s even a “Red, White & Roll” theme on June 30 and July 4.

“I’m very excited about our theme nights because I think it will be especially fun for the local community,” Hulugalle said.

The best part? A portion of proceeds is donated to the C4 Foundation, which supports active-duty Navy SEALs and their families.

“Giving back to the local community is one of our priorities, and when you look at Coronado and its military ties, the C4 Foundation seems like the perfect fit,” Hulugalle said.
