Cleveland Browns GM issues direct message amid Amari Cooper contract talks

The Cleveland Browns have a situation with Amari Cooper. Cooper missed the team’s minicamp as he is reportedly seeking an extension from the Browns, with the veteran receiver entering the final year of his current contract.

Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry was recently asked about Cooper and where the Browns stand in terms of contract negotiations with the Wideout camp. Berry didn’t give a direct answer, but he made it clear that Cleveland loved having Cooper in the fold.

Via Nick Shook of NFL.com:

“What I will say about Amari is since he’s been a member of the Cleveland Browns, he’s obviously been a high-level, Pro Bowl-caliber receiver,” Berry said. “But he’s also a great teammate and a great professional. We are happy to have him as a member of the organization.

Berry also expressed his awareness of the situation regarding Cooper, who arrived in Cleveland in 2022 via a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. However, it’s one thing to praise Cooper and another to show it through a contract. It remains to be seen whether the Browns will give in to Cooper’s desire.

“Sometimes all teams will have periods where they go through this type of situation, but that doesn’t change our affinity for Amari. We’ll address the business considerations, the business aspects, as we go, but he’s an integral part of our team and, just as importantly, he’s an integral part of our culture.

In two seasons so far in a Browns uniform, Cooper has accumulated 2,410 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 150 receptions and 260 targets.
