Rams RB room receives modest ranking by PFF

The Los Angeles Rams had one of the most productive offenses on the ground last year, finishing 11th in rushing yards in 2023. Running back Kyren Williams, who led the league in yards per carry, finished third in the league in rushing yards and was tied. for fifth in rushing touchdowns among all running backs last season.

The Rams also added Michigan RB Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Corum, a key cog in the Michigan Wolverines’ 2023 national championship run, rushed for 1,245 yards and 27 total touchdowns last year. Corum finished his career with 3,727 rushing yards and 58 touchdowns.

Even with that production leading their offense, the Rams did not finish in the top ten in the NFL, according to one site.

Pro Football Focus ranked all 32 NFL running back rooms, placing the Rams 11th, just outside the top 10. Here’s what PFF had to say about the Rams’ RB stable:

“That may be too high a ranking for the Rams. Still. Kyren Williams had an 80.3 PFF rushing grade with the sixth-highest PFF win above average (0.17) in 2023 .

The team also now has rookie Blake Corum, who felt like it took a while to trust his knee after an injury in the first half of 2023, but returned to form during Michigan’s playoff run . Let’s not forget that Corum had an incredible 96.2 rushing grade in 2022. These two could make for one of the most efficient running back rooms in the league.

Blake Corum will be part of a 1-2 battering ram with Kyren Williams, one that the Rams hope will keep their offense on track for the 2024 season and beyond.

Personally, I’m not sold on some of the teams before them, like the Packers, Jets, Eagles, and Colts, because each of those teams isn’t really a full “room”, but is instead anchored by a only talent. However, given how unproven Corum is (even though I think he’s the best RB in Los Angeles) and Williams’ injury history, it’s a reasonable placement for these two- there. We will see how they evolve by the end of the season.
