EYWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Do you think your dog has a bad cup? MUG Root Beer wants to see it.

The famous root beer brand is holding a World’s Ugliest Dog competition to win cash and prizes.

MUG and its mascot, Dog, announced on Monday the launch of an annual competition to find the ugliest dog in the world.

MUG explains that the competition will take place at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, where top money will be awarded to the top three entrants as well as a chance for the winner to be featured on limited edition cans from MUG Root Beer instead of the usual mascot.

The third place winner would take home $2,000, second place $3,000, and first place would win the $5,000 grand prize.

These prizes aren’t just for dogs, as the owner of the winning dog would win a free MUG for a year and a chance for their dog to be featured on MUG social media.

The competition dates back 50 years and in 2024, MUG and Dog show that every dog has their day, as the competition celebrates dogs rescued from shelters and puppy mills, highlighting the importance of adoption.

“MUG will always support dogs. In fact, we love ours so much that we put it on every package. That’s why we want to give the world’s ugliest dog his own chance to be memorialized as the best dog,” said Patrick Gamble, senior director of brand marketing at MUG Root Beer.

“I support all my dogs because all dogs win. MUG needs more dogz! » said MUG Root Beer mascot Dog.

MUG says nominees will be crowned on Friday June 21 and winners will be announced on Monday June 24.
