Great Falls hosts ‘Little Kids Meet’ to spark youth interest in track

GREAT FALLS – There was an overload of kindness at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Some track coaches and parents from Great Falls High School organized a track meet for children as young as 3 years old. Opportunities for children to run track typically begin when they reach fifth or sixth grade.

The Little Kids Meet is an idea that has been in the works for about three years, with the hope that it will get young children excited about competing in athletics in the years to come.

Participants were able to take part in races as well as throwing and jumping events. Everyone was able to participate in four separate events and received a ribbon for their participation. The top three finishers in each event received a ribbon for their respective place.

The organizers expected around 20 children to attend, but in the end more than 100 people signed up. They plan to continue hosting this event in the future.
