Edie Falco cried while reading the script for The Sopranos The series finale.

In a retrospective on the popular HBO series for CBS News, the actress who played Carmela Soprano revealed that she was emotional while reading the final episode, titled “Made in America.”

“I was out of control. I was embarrassed,” said the four-time Emmy winner, 60, while reflecting on the table read with her castmates in 2007.

“I really couldn’t stop crying, it was ridiculous,” she continued. “It was, ‘This thing right now will never happen to me or anyone again.’ »

The series finale’s infamous fade to black still has fans wondering whether or not Tony Soprano was killed off at the last moment.

When told that the series had probably changed many people’s lives, Falco agreed, saying “I think about ours, in all kinds of ways.”

“We both had Italian family, we had a certain idea of ​​what that dynamic was like and we fell into it very easily,” said Falco, who never married. “It was, you know, a 10-year marriage. And it was as close to a real marriage as I had ever known.”

Falco portrayed Carmela in The Sopranos from 1999 to 2007. She won three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for this role.

Although Falco remembers his years in the Soprano family fondly, the Nurse Jackie the star previously told PEOPLE in March that her children, son Anderson and daughter Macy, had never seen him The Sopranos.

“They’re so done with it,” she said. “They never saw him. Neither of them.”
