Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom on Sunday after a power outage in the area caused widespread disruption, flight cancellations and serious delays. A significant number of flights, particularly from Terminals 1 and 2, are expected to be delayed or canceled, an airport spokesperson said. The disruption was first reported by Sky News, which said a power supply problem was affecting the airport and a number of other buildings. Power has been restored but the impact will affect services throughout the day, the report added.

The BBC said passengers had been asked to stay away from the airport and the power outage had affected luggage and security systems. The report also states that an Easyjet airline spokesperson said passengers could only board their flight with a cabin bag due to problems with the baggage system. The airport spokesperson said passengers due to catch a flight from Terminal 3 would be able to come to the airport as normal unless advised otherwise by their airline, but could be affected by delays.

Manchester Airport resumes operations

Later, airport authorities said operations had resumed and expected flights to resume Sunday afternoon and evening. It is unclear what led to the power outage, but Manchester Airport said in a statement that it was working with airlines to reschedule canceled flights in the coming days, adding that flights scheduled for Monday would not be affected.

The airport said in a previous post on social media platform by delays.
