Restore canceled trains: CPM

Visakhapatnam: Members of the Anakapalli district committee of the CPM staged a dharna at Anakapalli railway station to immediately restore trains running from Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada and provide travel facilities to the common people.

CPM Anakapalli district secretary K. Lokanatham said thousands of poor and middle-class students, employees, small traders and migrant workers travel every day. Due to the cancellation of train services available to them, they will face heavy financial burdens and will not be able to reach their destination.

He also objected to the central government taking away the travel facilities of the common man by reducing the number of sleeper coaches and increasing the number of AC coaches. Passenger trains from Visakha to Vijayawada as well as Simhadri, Ratnachal, Udai, Machilipatnam and Guntur-Rayagada Express are frequently cancelled in the name of modernisation. The poor and middle class people are choosing railways for their travel as the railway fares are very low compared to other means of transport. Due to the cancellation of these trains, more than 10,000 passengers per day will face a lot of problems.
