2 men arrested with fake IDs, stolen credit cards during traffic stop on I-75

Two men were arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Marion County after law enforcement allegedly found counterfeit driver’s licenses, stolen credit cards and marijuana in their possession.

A corporal with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was heading north on Interstate 75 on Monday when a gray SUV passed the corporal’s patrol vehicle at an “extremely high speed.” The corporal caught up with the SUV and conducted a traffic stop, according to the arrest report.

The corporal noted in the report that the SUV had two occupants: Henton Vladimir Etienne, 34 years old (driver) and Cinel Geffrard, 40 years old (passenger).

Etienne allegedly told the corporal that he was driving fast because “his shoe hurt.” He claimed that when he tried to take off his shoe, it “got stuck on the pedal” and caused the vehicle to accelerate, according to the report.

While near the SUV, the corporal could smell a “strong odor of burnt marijuana,” which gave him probable cause to search the vehicle. The report stated that another MCSO corporal soon arrived at the scene of the traffic stop to assist in the search for the vehicle.

The two occupants of the SUV were ordered to exit the vehicle. When Geffrard exited the vehicle, he allegedly held a baggie containing a green leafy substance, which tested positive for marijuana.

During an interior search of the SUV, Etienne’s wallet was found and it reportedly contained the following items: five counterfeit driver’s licenses and a counterfeit passport all bearing his photo with different names.

Furthermore, a corporal noted in the report that Etienne also had five credit cards and three social security cards in his wallet that did not belong to him.

Geffrard’s wallet was also searched by the corporals and it allegedly contained four credit cards that were not in his name.

Both occupants were read their Miranda rights. Etienne claimed that the fraudulent documents had been established by the mother of his child. He further claimed to have “kept the documents” so that they could not be “used against him.” When asked why he didn’t get rid of the fraudulent documents, he said he didn’t have access to a shredder, according to the report.

Geffrard refused to speak to the corporals.

Etienne was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was released the next day after posting $17,500 bond. He is charged with possession of a counterfeit driver’s license or identification card (six counts) and possession of personal information of five or more people (one count).

Geffrard was also arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released the next day after posting $2,000 bond. He is charged with possession of marijuana weighing not more than 20 grams (one count) and possession of personal information of four or fewer people (one count).

No court date has yet been set for Etienne or Geffrard, according to prison records.
