Longtime Modesto school employee accused of trying to meet 13-year-old for sex

MODESTO — Detectives arrested a longtime Modesto City School District employee on charges of attempting to meet a 13-year-old for sexual purposes, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Kevin Morgan, 63, of Riverbank, was arrested June 14 when he encountered an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old child. authorities said. Communication between the two men continued for a week before arranging a meeting at Beyer Park, north of the city.

Detectives said the arrangement was for the two men to return to Morgan’s home where they would engage in sexual acts.

Morgan was arrested without incident. Detectives then conducted a search of his home and seized several electronic devices for forensic purposes.

“We urge parents to take an interest in who their children communicate with. Trust, but verify, they speak with those who have their best interests at heart,” the sheriff’s office said in announcing the arrest by Morgan.

Morgan had worked as a campus supervisor at Mark Twain Junior High. Detectives said they were in constant contact with school staff and determined no children had been contacted or injured.

Margan faces three charges of sending harmful material to a minor with the intent to seduce the minor. He remained in custody Tuesday and bail was set at $575,000.
