A deputy was patrolling the Kings Cove area of Fruitland Park around 2:06 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The unit received multiple complaints about highway vehicles and golf carts on the roads in the neighborhood, which is not a designated golf cart community.

The deputy then spotted a man, later identified as Nathan Grant Foster, 40, driving a golf cart with his dog in the passenger seat. The report stated the golf cart did not have a Florida license plate. A traffic stop was then conducted and the deputy explained who he was and the reason for the stop.

The deputy then asked Foster for his driver’s license, to which he responded that he did not have a license but rather an ID card. He handed over the card and the deputy ran it through his mobile command center. He learned Foster’s license had been suspended/revoked by court order for driving under the influence, according to the report.

Foster was asked about his destination and where he was coming from. He said he was coming from his father’s house, which was about three houses away, and that he was going to his house. The officer also asked him why he was driving, to which he responded that he had read Florida law and believed he did not need a license to drive a golf cart on the road if he was over 18, the report said.

The deputy explained that Foster’s driving privileges had been suspended/revoked, which he was told in court. Additionally, he was not in a designated golf cart community, so even if his license was not revoked, he still would not be able to drive a golf cart in that neighborhood, the report states.

The deputy asked Foster to call his father to come pick up the golf cart and dog. He then took Foster into custody to issue him tickets for the violations. Additionally, Foster’s current suspensions include two restrictions for driving for business purposes only and with corrective lenses. There is also a revocation effective April 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol and a suspension effective May 27 for a suspension without adjudication, the report said.

Foster was charged with driving on a suspended license for driving while intoxicated and without a motor vehicle registration. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $10,500 bail.
