Arne Slot received opportunistic message from Feyenoord star after Liverpool transfer issue

Feyenoord star Igor Paixao took the opportunity to send a message to Arne Slot after being asked about a possible reunion with his former manager at Liverpool in the next transfer window.

The 24-year-old Brazilian played a key role in Feyenoord’s Dutch Cup win last season under Slot, who has now taken over at Anfield following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. With a total of 12 goals in all competitions for the Dutch side, Paixao’s name has been swirling in transfer rumours.

Many Feyenoord players have been linked with Liverpool, although Slot is reluctant to sign too many Dutch players. Paixao’s name is not particularly associated with Anfield, but when asked directly about the rumours, he did little to quell the speculation and took the opportunity to pay Slot a few compliments.

Paixao told Globo Esporte: “I only see this on social media. (The fans) don’t want me to leave Feyenoord, but that doesn’t depend on me. Together with my agents and the board, we will decide the best path forward.

“I listen and watch on social media. A lot of people always tag me and ask: are you going to Liverpool? I don’t know anything, I’m just waiting. But Dutch football is really cool. It’s the intensity that makes it different.”

Reflecting on his connection with Slot, Paixao said: “He also helped me when I arrived, in my development, and I felt like I was helping him. It’s good that everything went well. He has done an exceptional job with our team. I just have to thank him and wish him success at Liverpool, but he must continue to work.

While Paixao is certainly aware of the rumours linking him with a move to reunite with his former manager, it remains unclear whether Liverpool are genuinely interested in bringing him to Anfield. Since the arrival of Slot and the club’s new sporting director Richard Hughes, Liverpool have yet to make a signing, although they are expected to strengthen their squad in the transfer window.
