Hallmark’s New Christmas Movie Is Inspired By Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Love Story

Queen Latifah is one of the Black woman who made watch Living as a single person an anticipated event in my household. Before producer and screenwriter Mara Brock Ali FriendsI remember seeing Latifah’s (Khadijah) character leading the fictional project Flavor magazine. I didn’t know it at the time, but seeing her sail with a careerMy roommates, friends, and romantic relationships gave me a taste of what comes with adulthood.

With over two decades of acting experience under her belt, it’s time we pay tribute to Queen Latifah. romantic comedy legacy. Without her, I wouldn’t have known that it was possible for diverse Black characters to have funny, loving adventures that weren’t always tied to trauma. While these stories deserve to be told, Queen Latifah helped me understand that Black people are not monolithic. These shared experiences And Different perspectives or backgrounds may exist within our culture.

But don’t just take my word for it. Here are 6 Queen Latifah movies you should binge-watch before the month is out!

Beauty salon

In Beauty salonQueen Latifah stars as Gina Norris, a widowed hairdresser with a young daughter. She initially works in a high-end salon, but decides to quit when she can no longer stand the toxic environment. Deciding to open her own business, she experiences a series of ups and downs during the hiring and renovation process. But time eventually allows her to find great success as a beauty salon owner. And she even finds love again.

I like to watch Beauty salon because I have fond memories of the conversations of the older women in the hair salons I frequented. In fact, I still remember the name of my favorite hairdresser—Ms. Tanya—who had a similar personality to Gina Beauty salon.

In my opinion, this is one of the most accurate representations of what goes on in hair salons. On top of that, it humanizes those who work in the beauty industry.

Last holidays

In addition Beauty salon, Last holidays is my second favorite Queen Latifah romantic comedy. It immerses itself in the world of Georgia Byrd, a painfully shy woman who works in the kitchenware department of a large retail store, and makes viewers believe that she is exactly who she is. She even has a huge crush on her co-worker, but she’s too afraid to tell him anything.

It’s an incredible film because we see Georgia spend time away from her own life until a scary diagnosis forces her to live life to the fullest. She travels to the Czech Republic and begins to do things she never allowed herself to do. From dressing in the finest designer clothes to BASE jumping, she learns what it means to do things that scare you.

If you’re wondering, OF COURSE she finally confesses her feelings to her crush! In fact, he’s there to support her when she decides to open her own restaurant towards the end of Last holidays.

While finding love is always fun, I like the other messages in this movie, like not waiting for the perfect moment to enjoy life and being careful not to judge a book by its cover.

Just Wright

In the role of Leslie Wright, Queen Latifah is a no-nonsense physical therapist. Despite her success in her career, Latifah’s character can’t seem to break out of her friend zone. However, she moves on and buys a house that she ends up sharing with her close friend Morgan.

The two are polar opposites as Morgan only cares about being the token wife of a successful NBA player. Her wish eventually comes true when Morgan meets one of the New Jersey Nets’ top basketball players, Scott McKnight. He is immediately intrigued by Morgan’s deception and hastily proposes to her a few months later.

After an accident threatens Scott’s career, Leslie becomes his physical therapist and gives him no break. Eventually, the two discover they have an interest in each other and begin to grow closer after Morgan decides she’s not cut out to help him recover.

This movie resonated with me because we often joke about putting men in the friend zone, but I like to think we all know what it feels like when the man you like doesn’t like you. So to see this talented, beautiful, successful woman decide not to become bitter about her initial lack of love life is inspiring.

It doesn’t hurt that she finally lands a high-paying role AND a blossoming love life with someone she never intended to fall in love with.

Brown sugar

Brown sugar Queen Latifah’s (Francine) character isn’t the center of attention, but she’s the definition of a supporting actress. In the film, she plays Sidney’s (Sanaa Lathan) cousin and constantly encourages her to admit how she really feels about her best friend Dre (Taye Diggs).

Although her love life isn’t the focus of her mind, Francine notices that Cavi (played by Mos Def), an artist Dre works with, is too shy to really initiate anything romantic with her. Ever confident, she asks him on a date and everything ends well.

Universal Pictures

Girls trip

Queen Latifah’s character, Sasha, is more focused on finding clients to help pay her bills than on romantic relationships. She does, however, acknowledge that her best friend Ryan Pierce (Regina Hall) is married to a cheating and narcissistic man. This causes tension between the two as they each hide the nature of what is really going on between them, but they eventually manage to rebuild their friendship.

What makes this movie a romantic comedy is that we see each of the women — Ryan, Sasha, Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Dina (Tiffany Haddish) — grapple with their own version of love. Sometimes that just happens when you’re having fun at a music festival with your best friends.

The perfect holiday

Last but not least, The perfect holiday is a light-hearted Christmas movie starring Queen Latifah as an angel named Mrs. Christmas. She and Bah Humbug (Terrance Howard) work behind the scenes to determine whether Benjamin (Morris Chestnut) and Nancy (Gabrielle Union) can find romantic love in each other.

This is one of those fun Christmas movies that the whole family can watch, especially if everyone loves seeing how the winter holidays can get people into a frenzy – and how much joy they can bring in the end!
