East Boston traffic stop leads to gun, drug seizures, two arrests

BOSTON — Two men were arrested and several firearms and narcotics were seized following a traffic stop in East Boston Monday night.

At approximately 5:33 p.m. on July 1, officers with the Boston Police Department A-7 (East Boston) arrested Emanuel Jaramillo Alvarez, 22, and Mynor Argueta Garcia, 21, both of East Boston, on various firearm and drug charges.

The traffic stop took place at 301 Border St after officers noticed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate.

After stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana and observed several occupants not wearing seat belts.

Further investigation led to the discovery of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and codeine promethazine inside the vehicle.

District A-7 detectives also recovered two firearms: a Taurus PT-111 G2 with five rounds of 9mm ammunition and a Smith & Wesson M&P with eight rounds of .380 caliber ammunition.

Alvarez faces arraignment in East Boston District Court on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and drug possession with intent to distribute, as well as trafficking citations.

Garcia is also expected to be indicted on similar charges of firearms and drug possession with intent to distribute.

Three additional passengers were issued tickets for failing to wear seat belts.

Boston police continue efforts to combat illegal gun and drug activity in the area.
