Fanny: The right to rock

FANNY is undoubtedly one of the legends of rock that we had never heard of until recently. What started as a way for two Filipina sisters to make friends at a Sacramento high school has become the first all-girl band to release an album on a major label.

Fanny: The right to rock

Left to right: Fanny Jean Millington bassist, keyboardist Nickey Barclay, singer/drummer Brie Darling, lead guitarist June Millington and Richard Perry – Warner/Reprise record producer

As young women who skillfully played their own instruments, Fanny wrote original songs that were ahead of their time, with lyrics exploring themes of sexual freedom, war, relationships and identity.

FANNY: THE RIGHT TO ROCK juxtaposes an intimate, cinematic journey of Fanny’s quest to complete and release her new record with the intriguing story of the band’s unlikely path during their heyday in the 1970s.
